March Giveaway - Handmade Pouch, Pincushion and Brooches to Win !

So, it's about time for a give away! I've put together a selection of handmade goodies , including a pin cushion (top) , a small pouch , and two fuzzy hand felted brooches all in fresh coordinating colours.

When I designed these pouches I was intending them to be used for mobile phones , but I know people have also used them for storing business cards, scissors, feminine products...you name it they're pretty handy!

...Has this got any other uses?...probably not, but it makes a pretty good pin cushion!

Now, for your chance to win - I hope you don't think it's too cheeky if I ask you to help me out with a little market research. I need to make more items for my online shops, but it's so important for me to make the things people actually want to own , not just because I need to make ends meet, but it's also incredibly flattering when someone chooses to spend their hard earned cash on something you have taken time over making ! - your advice would be invaluable!

Here's what I'd like you to do :

* Visit either my etsy or folksy shops

* Pick an item that you like or loath (or both)

*Leave a comment on this post stating which item you chose and briefly explain why (It would be helpful if you were quite specific - i.e. the fabric, the colour, or the design, etc)

* please make sure I'm able to contact you .If you don't have a blog leave your email (or send me it at julialaing at materialised.co.uk if you don't want it to be public)

*Each comment will be assigned a number , and I'll use a random number generator to choose the winner.

*The draw will take place on the 31st March

*The winner will be announced here as soon as they have been notified

Good luck and thanks for taking part!

The Comments on the giveaway are now closed. The winner has been chosen and will be notified shortly. Thanks to everyone who took part!

What a great idea!
I'm drawn to your little cloth pouches. I especially like this one. http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=19785013
The grey and purple are luscious together, and the design is nice. I think your pincushions are very lovely, too. Have you been selling many? My pincushions aren't especially big sellers.
Whenever I see your avatar, I want to see you making more things like that!

Love the birdie brooches too.
Not so keen on the rectangle shaped brooches. Hope you don't mind me saying that, just trying to be constructive. Aileen x

Your shop is filled with beautiful bits of textile goodness, but my favorite piece is Three Houses.
The colors blend so beautifully (gray and aqua are two of my faves). I love all of the unique textures and stitches you chose.
The leaves and ferns have such a wonderful organic feel. Very soothing and tactile.

Too many lovely items to choose from I feel!
I really like your birdie brooches, they have such great texture and colour too them. I like that they are wearable works of art.
I think you use great colours on all your work, they are soothing and wistful. Do you use richer colours with the changing of the seasons? as I think this would work well with your work. I love the texture of the felt in your pieces it works really well.
great giveaway by the way! ;0

I like the combo of colors and the design!!It's like an illustration infabrics and I am a cat lover!

Hi Julia,
I like your bird brooches and bunny, cat purses. They are more distinctive and show your individual style.x

Gigibird said...

I love your birdie brooch....the one on Folksy.
It is difficult - what to make that might be useful that people can justify buying because they 'need' one but I like brooches and corsages as they can pretty up and old coat or cardigan. It is nice to be able to treat yourself or a friend.
I guess pouches are useful for all the reasons you have given.
Ever thought about camera cases?

Diana said...

I really like nearly all of your work because I think you use colour beautifully - they are always lovely and fresh, and make me want to smile.
I do though prefer the fabric stitched items to the felt ones. I especially like the 'Heart Handmade' embroidered linen purse - love the colours, again, and the attention to detail (those frayed blue edges make all the difference).
Have to say that I'm not so keen on the felt brooches, the colours don't zing quite so much and in one or two instances (Heart felt brooch no 6) you can't see the heart shape too well. But don't take offence, it's just a comment, and you did ask!
Also love your wallhangings - again, gorgeous use of colour.
Overall, did I say that I love the way you use colour ? (LOL)
Keep up the good work.

I think the first thing that I notice is that your blog has a different name from your shops. It may not make any difference but again it might.
I love the colours that you use and the items with animals or plant shapes seem to sell the best.
I particularly liked the "Bring me Sunshine" textile art, I know it is sold. I wondered if some of the elements of that piece of work could be incorporated into your current work.

Good luck.

What a good way of getting some valuable feedback. You have some great items but the two that really stand out in terms of colour and design are the bunny coin purse (would look great on bigger items too I suspect) and the black cat - that's a lovely colour combo and a cheeky sweet image. Well done for your creativity.

Miss Frugality said...

No time today ,to write a proper post but I just wanted to say how grateful I am for the wonderful feedback so far! ...and don't worry about saying if you don't like something - it's just as important to know...and you have the same chance of winning!

Good luck everyone, Julia :-)

I also like the cat purse ; )

many thanks

I love your little purses but I would have to say the pin cushions because I need a new one (or 2 or 3) and haven't had time to make on myself :)

Helloee!
Julia, this is so difficult! All of your items are lovely!! Of course, I love the felted brooches because I've got one!
I think if pushed, I'd say the polka dot pincushion is my favourite - love the colour and fabric combination. In the same vein, I think your purses are gorgeous. You offer variety, which is great - narrow things down too much and choice disappears.
I'm not much help, am I?! xx
I agree with Heloise, though...the different names.

I've just found your blog from Fancy picnic's blog, wow i love it, although on closer inspection some of your work has been featured on another blog i was looking at last night-the name?? i can't remember but it was your little pink rabbit purse on grey fabric.

I've looked at your shops and I must say I'm quite partial to your fabric corsage, this is a personal choice as i love layering fabric and embellishing. The colours and shape is just so appealing and would look great on a top/jacket of even handbag-i'd display it on everything.

Will be back to visit your shop again soon!

Emma :)

Thanks for the giveaway, and what a chore to have to look through all your lovely things, but I did it just for your research, well maybe a little for me too!
I love, love, love the Blue sky & Turquoise swallo bird pouch.
Felt brooch #6 didn't appeal to me at first, but I was won over by the sequins.
Happy days,

Oh, I love the Tweet Tweet Birdie felted brooch in your Folksy shop. I think the colours are really subtle but colourful, the orange gives it warmth & contrasts nicely with the blue. I also love the desig of the little cutie bird. So twee & quirky!

nicki said...

Oh how I HATE to say the same thing!!....but it has to be the Tweet, tweet Birdie brooch.....
why? you may ask
Because :
at the moment I am drawn to all things bird-ish.
I like his orange beak.
I thought he was giving me a bit of a funny look and it made me laugh out loud!

The colours and lovely and I like the hand embroidered details, but what i love best of all is his personality....who'd have thought a brooch could have one!

So difficult to choose!!!

From your etsy shop I loved the Spring Pin Cushion. I love the colours, the applique design, the colours and textures of the fabric strips. I love the fact it is very affordable and something you would use each day and appreciate its beauty.

On the folksy shop I just cant go past your wonderful felt bird. Again I love the colours you have chosen and I do love the birdies (in fact I have one of your birdies that I wear on my winter coat given to me by my friend Dot). So much detail in these little beauties.

I like all the things but I especially like the cat purse..becasue I love cats.

I love all of it...but, I think the silk cat purse and the polka dot pincushion are my favorites!

LOVE STITCHING RED said...

Hi Julia
I popped over to etsy and my "favouritest" thing has to be your gorgeous Spring pin cushion (mauve/green):

The only thing I could suggest is that I think your design is perfect for a whole range of domestic items such as tea cosies, oven gloves (although it would be too nice to use, but would look gorgeous hanging in the kitchen!), egg cosies, peg bags or bigger cushion covers and maybe in a range of different colours. But then there runs the risk that it all gets too commercial and not so one of a kind (which is lovely at the moment)

I think all the items in your shop complement each other very well. I like your style!

Have a lovey day! Carolyn :o)

beautiful stuff you have in your ETSY shop....I picked the "Wool and Velvet Purse with Embroidery - Grey Pink and Purple". The purple fabric on the inside...wauhh so cool...and I really love how the little leaf application reminds me of a palm tree in heavy winds. I really like the way you have used different kinds of material....velvet, wool with embroidery.
again very beautiful and artistic work you have made.

Oh I just love all of the tiny purses. I am a big bag kind of girl who is always looking for the perfect size smaller bags to organize the Big-ness into manageable compartments. I have a couple of those upcycled Thai feedsack ones to organize my keys, girly products, etc. By Moonlight was a real favorite!
Thanks for having the giveaway!

I really like your sense of colours. I was looking through your etsy-page and the colour palette is stunning. In particular I love the cat purses. Not only because of the motif (but also because of it!!!), but because of the silky look and the details - and as said three times no, because of those colours. I really like the purple, pink, green and blue'ish - it's very girly without beein princesse'y and it works. And a girl can never have too many purses to organize everything in...

Star of the East said...

First of all glad to find you (thanks to Ravenhill), your blog and shops are wonderful!
I checked your Etsy shop, my favorite is:
Wool and Velvet Purse with Embroidery - Grey Pink and Purple
I love the mixture of material, the colors the design and the fact that it is a purse :)
Beside my fav, I love all your pincushions and pouches, one thing that cought me was that some of your items look pretty low prices compaired to the work you've put in to them, like the cat purse for 14, seems a bit too low to me. Your work is beautiful, maybe you should use a detail picture for the big items, instead of the complete item including the frame, to get more in treasuries. The best way to sell on Etsy is to list often (daily) and have good pictures and great items, the last two you have you'll only hve to work on filling your shop :)
I hope I'll win that lovely puch!! :D

Hi Julia
Oh how to choose..? I love all of your stuff. The fabrics are so scrummy and I love all of your colour schemes.
If money were no object it would be "Not Waving Drowning" I would buy. Your choice of fabrics and the hand stitching are gorgeous.
If it were a smaller item I love the pink/purple colourway cat purse. That sumptuous silk in glowing colours... ooh..
Also the heartfelt brooches are great. I love the texture of handmade felt.

It is very hard to choose as think you create such wonderful items. I'd have them all if I could :-) But if I had to choose it would be your art pieces. They combine all of your talents and really showcase your eye for colours, textures, and design. I love the purses and pincushions too though and that's more within my price range. They use great fabrics and whimsical designs...I especially like the bunnies and cats. I like the soothing colours and embriodery details you use in the pincushions.
You can contact me via flickr -- willowpoppy or on email at willowpoppy@gmail.com

I love everything, but to choose one I would go with Tweet Tweet Birdie Brooch / Pin - Needlefelted and Embroidered...I love the way you combined needle felting along with embroidery and made a piece that was affordable by all and also to be seen by all. I also liek that you use a lot of purple in your designs.
